SERVICES

Depending on the project, SRS Law either works directly with client or in consortium with other advisors.  Typically, the arrangement will be one of the three models set out below.

Direct advice to companies

  • Partner-level expertise
  • Deep bench of consultants to call on, as and when required
  • More cost-effective than using a traditional law firm

Consortium-based projects

  • Working with technical, economic and financial advisors
  • Lower consortium bid fees compared to traditional law firms
  • Public and private sector work

Consultancy support to law firms

  • Assistance with existing projects
  • Strengthen you team when bidding for new work
  • Choose how much cost saving to pass on to clients

Case Study:  Direct Advice to Company

Client:        Global Utility Company
Project:      Solar PV Project
Year:           2017-18
Role:           International and Local Counsel

Engagement
The client required an energy expert to negotiate and advise on the development of a 1MW solar PV rooftop project.

Benefits to the client
•   More partner time and greater efficiency.  Traditional law firms would typically resource this with two laywers (a partner and an associate lawyer) and an approximate partner time allocation of 20%.  SRS Law was able to resource this project with 100% partner time.  SRS Law was able to operate more efficiently than a traditional law firm because no time was spent supervising an associate lawyer on the project.

•   Lower fees.  Due to lower overheads, SRS Law's partner rate was lower than a junior lawyer at an international law firm.

Case Study:  Consortium-based Project

Client:        Middle East Energy Regulator

Project:      Water and Wastewater Regulation
Year:           2018
Role:           International and Local Counsel

Engagement
The client required a consortium of legal, financial and technical consultants to advise on international best practice for the procurement of water and wastewater projects.

Benefits to the consortium

•   Lower fees.  SRS Law was able to provide the same experience as an international law firm but, due to lower overheads, SRS Law's rates were more competitive.

Benefits to the client

•    More partner time and greater efficiency.  Traditional law firms would typically resource this type of project with four lawyers (two partners, two associates) and an approximate partner time allocation of 20%.  SRS Law resourced this project with 100% partner time.

Case Study:  Consultancy Support to Law Firm

Client:        Global Oil Company
Project:      Middle East Oil and Gas Concession
Year:           2017-18
Role:           Support to Global Law Firm

Engagement
The client instructed a global law firm to advise on its negotiation and entry into a Middle East oil concession.  The global law firm did not have recent oil and gas expertise in the jurisdiction and therefore it sub-contracted SRS Law as a consultant.

Benefits to the law firm and the client
•   Continuity of relationship.  The arrangement meant the global law firm was able to service the client's needs, rather than turn down the work or do it less efficiently.

•   Process.  The client had no additional compliance or administrative burden:

        -  all of the advice was provided under the brand of the global law firm.

        -  the client continued to receive invoices only from the global law firm.

•   Lower fees.  Due to SRS Law's lower overheads, the global law firm was able to pass on cost savings to the client.
